| A specific project was developed as a direct result of the lunch meeting - a Majulah Connection China Caucus Study Mission. Mr Ngiam Tong Dow led the team of 22 mission delegates to Tianjin from October 12 - October 16, 2003, at the invitation of the Tianjin City Government. This mission was facilitated by Mr Patrick Choy, a member of the standing committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)
The purpose of the study visit was to assess the business opportunities that are available in the future development of the Tianjin city. The participants included representatives from Singaporean-based organisations and enterprises with proven capabilities in city and infrastructure development. Areas of interests are in airport and sea-port development and management, housing development, logistics and supply chain management activities, engineering services, water treatment, manufacturing, tourism development, and financial services.
The team was met by Mayor Dai Xiang Long (Mayor of Tianjin), the Executive Vice Mayors, and other senior city officials, and are exposed to the various related business plans and opportunities in the Tianjin area. Tianjin is interested to explore how it may work with the group of interested Singapore enterprises in its city development plans.
In the meanwhile, Majulah Connection is working on establishing a consultancy company to continue to facilitate future dealings with the Tianjin/Chinese authorities, and for future activities organised by the Majulah Connection China group in China.
Majulah Connection will also be organising a review meeting for all the Tianjin Study Mission delegates.
